  23. IconForge, from CursorArts Company, is quite simply the best, most
  24. comprehensive utility available for creating and editing Windows
  25. format cursors, icons, multi-resolution icons, animated
  26. icons/cursors, and bitmap images. Its tools include: brush, line,
  27. circle, rectangle, flood fill, rotate, flip, area select, text,
  28. nudge and zoom. Transparent areas may be easily painted onto the
  29. icon image to allow background colors to show through. IconForge
  30. easily works with multiple icons at the same time for easy cut and
  31. paste between images. Special effects filters such as whirlpool,
  32. tile, mosaic and sharpen/unsharpen help to make painting your own
  33. icon-sized pictures a snap! IconForge handles ICO format icons,
  34. Cursors (CUR) and animated Icon/Cursor (ANI) files. IconForge
  35. imports from and exports to BMP, PCX, JPG, TIF, and PNG format
  36. bitmap images and even imports icons contained within Windows
  37. program EXE and DLL files. Also features context-sensitive help,
  38. Multi-level Undo/Redo, and Windows clipboard support. Requires

  44. INSTALLING IconForge
  45. ------------------------------

  47. Before you can begin using IconForge you must run the IconForge
  48. Setup program from Windows. In most cases you cannot simply copy
  49. the software onto your hard drive. The files on the CursorArts
  50. distribution disks are stored in a special compressed form to
  51. save space. The Setup program is the only way to insure that
  52. IconForge is properly unpacked and installed. If you are using
  53. Windows 95/98/NT4, you may wish to download and install the
  54. "32-bit" version of IconForge, as it contains features for these
  55. operating systems. To install IconForge, follow the steps below:
  56.  
  57. 1.  Start Windows.
  58.  
  59. 2.  If you received IconForge on diskette, place it into
  60.     the floppy drive now. If you downloaded IconForge in
  61.     archived format, use FileWrangler or PKUNZIP to uncompress
  62.     the files to a working directory on your hard disk.
  63.  
  64. 3.  Activate the Start button, File Manager or Explorer.
  65.  
  66. 4.  Select "Run..." from the "Start" menu or File Manager.
  67.  
  68. 5.  In the "Command Line" field enter one of the following:
  69.  
  70.       -  If you placed the IconForge diskette into drive
  71.          A:, type: A:\SETUP
  72.  
  73.       -  If you placed the IconForge diskette into drive
  74.          B:, type: B:\SETUP
  75.  
  76.       -  If you downloaded IconForge, type:
  77.          C:\DIRNAME\SETUP (Remember to replace DIRNAME with the name
  78.          of the directory where you uncompressed the IconForge.)

  80. 6.  Follow the instructions on the screen.
  81.  
  82. 7.  If you decide not to continue to use IconForge, simply use your
  83.          file manager to delete the IconForge directory (e.g.,
  84.          C:\ICONFORG). If you created an IconForge program group on 
  85.          the desktop, simply highlight the icon and use the Program
  86.          Manager's delete function.
